Harbin, my little homeland, my love, Grandma Jadwiga Tomaszewska and my family in Harbin
Hello,
My name is Janik Maria, I live in Edmonton Canada.
I come from Elblag. I lived there with my family, husband and 2 children until 1987. My husband, Wlodzimierz Janik, is the great-grandson of Stefania Vitord (Stefania Witord?) – I do not know the exact spelling of the surname, who was the hostess and founder of the Polish Gospoda in Harbin:
“The main Polish organization there was the Gospoda Polska Association. http://www.gp24.pl/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071020/MAGAZYN/71019029
Her daughter Jadwiga Tomaszewska was her husband’s grandmother. She taught English and Russian at the school in Harbin. The husband of Tomaszewska’s grandmother, Vincenty (Wincenty) Tomaszewski, worked at the Polish Consulate in Harbin as a driver, later he was in the Anders Army. The Tomaszewski family was also there.
The husband’s family lived at the Consulate. My husband’s mother, Anna Janik née Tomaszewska, was born there. Mr and Mrs kosul: The consul and his wife were godparents of my mother-in-law, Anna Tomaszewska.
Grandfather Vincenta Tomaszewski did not return to Poland, after the war he remained in England, but both grandmothers and husband’s mother returned to Poland to Elblag.
So far, I provide so much information, I do not remember more, if they were needed, my husband is able to provide more information
I dedicated the website of grandma Jadzia Tomaszewska http://www.dzieci.bci.pl/strony/jadziat/index.html
